Have any of you Gappers looked in the merchandise book at the transition 2 items?

While the pictures are small and hard to really tell what things will look like, it looks like there's corduroy blazers, some nice coats, and what looks like a cable knit sweater with big buttons down the front and it has elbow patches. It looks like a grandpa sweater!

I'm in love and I can't wait for shipment next week!!!

Hi guys! I really need your Gap expertise...

I found this purse in July's issue of Seventeen (yes, I'm 19 and still read it... it's my guilty pleasure!) and fell in love with it. The caption says it's $35 and available in "select Gap stores." I'm sad to say that the store in my mall (I live in Terre Haute, Indiana) is not one of these select Gap stores. The sales associate working there even called the Gap in Indianapolis, and they said it didn't even sound familiar. The purse is also not on gap.com. I know a lot of you are Gap employees, and could tell me if your store carries this purse, so I can at least know that it exists!

I also thought that it might just not be available yet, but the magazine was on newstands in June... so I would think that by now it would be out. Any ideas?

I included a picture of it

Intro [Jul. 5th, 2005|10:34 pm]
Gap Inc.

Hello! I'm new to the community. I work at Old Navy 5367 in Danbury, CT.

A little about me: I'm 28 years old and have been married for four years. I have a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Journalism, but was laid off from my ad agency job a while back and started working at Old Navy. I love working for Gap Inc. and would really like to move into the corporate side of the company doing design work, branding, or even displays (I'm known for running around my store re-dressing all the mannequins because I love putting together outfits). However I'm unsure how to make this happen. I've posted my resume on gapcareers.com and spoken to my GM, but have gotten nowhere. Anybody have any advice?

Anyway. Happy to see there's a community for us!

community service [Jul. 5th, 2005|10:04 pm]

Question:  How extensively do your stores participate in community service, if at all?

At my old store, it was a given that we did it.  Whether it was just donating food once a month or doing a walkathon. . .

At my new store, no one has any interest in it.  I even suggested that all the Gap Inc. stores in the mall participate together in sponsoring a stretch of highway to clean up litter.  And I can't get any real response from any of the store managers.  This sort of bums me out. . .

I know people have plenty of other things to do day-today, but am I really being that unrealistic?

I realized that I never introduced myself...

Hi. *waves* My name is Jessica, I'm 22, and I work at Gap store 2906 in Madison, WI. I attend the University of Wisconsin and I'm double majoring in English and journalism with an emphasis in advertising and public relations. After I graduate this December, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I want to get some advertising experience and I'd love to stay with Gap, but Gap has an external agency and there's little chance I'd get an entry level job at that agency (for those interested, Laird & Partners handles Gap Women, GapBody, and babyGap). Otherwise, I'd like to do internal communications with Gap and help design the kits for meetings, trainings, etc. But, really, who knows what will end up happening. I do not want to manage a store though; I don't think my mental health could handle customers for the rest of my life. Haha.

As far as my status with Gap is concerned, I've worked there for a year and a few months. I'm a Sales Coach and I'm MOD trained. My head-of-store is convinced I'll be a manager someday and she's bent on keeping me in the company no matter what. Haha.

Hi there, I recently joined this community. My name is Nicole and I work at 2804 in Clackamas, Oregon (just outside of Portland) as a sales associate. It is a relatively small store (too small to get 1969) and in a generally poorer neighborhood. I like it, though, because it is a close-knit community and we know about 1/4 of the people who come in.

Right now I am disappointed because I was told I would be used for displays and merchandising, but one of my managers has decided against it. I am incredibly skilled at displays/merchandising/signage because that was all I did at my last job (Sears In-Store Marketing).

Work has been going well recently because this manager has been away for vacation. She is hard to work for because she is insulting towards her employees. She insinuates that I am stupid (um, I go to Stanford and was considered the one of the top 100 students in the nation.). I do much more poorly on the floor when she is there because I know she is watching me, waiting for me to do anything wrong. And no, this is not paranoia - everyone notices she does this.

Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this? I normally don't care about managerial conflicts, but it is getting harder each day.

The past two days of work have been AWFUL! A customer made my cry yesterday and people were just really weird today. But hey, I opened up four GapCards yesterday and four GapCards today, so I can move on.

Are you guys experiencing the same pheonomenon I am?? Are holiday-weekend-shoppers just bizarre?

Sorry, I'm bored and I keep thinking of stuff.  Three posts in a night: Man, am I a loser.

You remember the Gap employee surveys we had to do over the phone about a month ago?  My associate manager won an i-pod shuffle.

And I wasn't around at the time for this, but I guess there was a Gap brand contest back during Holiday, in which an associate could win a trip to the Bahamas.  This girl in my store won that, too, and just went last week.   She's so dorky and came back with these horrendous dread locks.  The problem is telling her that they're starting to look really gross.  Not to mention the fact that she is the whitest girl you will ever meet.

. . .I think I'm done.

So this was really awful and wrong, but hilarious. . .

I was closing with my Head of Store, Aimee, last night.  And these LPs walk in with this bag filled with women's full-price items (that were not their sizes) that had most likely been stolen from another store or even our store earlier that day.  Attempting to appear completely innocent, they asked if we wanted to hold the bag.  Yes, I know that we cannot do that, as far as liability is concerned.  But Aimee agreed.

While these women were in the fitting room, Aimee took three of six things out of their bag.  They had no receipt and no proof we had done anything.  The LPs were sooooo clowned at the cashwrap.

I love clowning LPs.

community management [Jul. 3rd, 2005|12:13 am]

Not to sound bitchy, but a lot of people have been joining this community and not posting or commenting.  I was thinking about deleting those who don't post or comment on anything within the next week.

Furthermore, a lot of what we have been talking about is semi-private company information, which I don't believe is appropriate for everyone to read.  I was thinking about making all posts in the future only viewable to members.

Tell me what you think, guys.  Your input is valuable.
